WHAT KINDNESS MEANS TO ME:
Two years ago, having always said that I loved animals, and had done all my life, I actually did something that I had always wanted to do. After shielding myself from the cruelty that I knew existed in Agriculture and particularly factory farmed animals and the dairy industry. I became vegetarian. This is a personal stand, and my family is not supportive.
I receive birthday cards that poke fun at my choice. My husband accuses me of not giving him meat to eat at every meal, although he has as much access to the kitchen as I do. When we go out for dinner, my choice causes people angst, some are even offended by it, it makes them uncomforable . They want to talk about it with a questioning look on their faces that suggests there is something wrong with me. they say “but wouldn’t you eat a nice piece of organic chicken?” I don’t try to convert people, it is their choice to do as they wish. They feel sorry for my husband, . “But where do you get your protein from,” they ask.
I’m proud of myself for making this choice, even though it isn’t easy to maintain with so much opposition.
I try to be kind to everyone and every living thing. One day I believe there will be a change in attitudes and animals will also live in a kinder world. I long for that day on their behalf.
Please note I am not judging anyone else for their choices. If you leave a comment, be kind please. This can be an emotive issue, I do not intend to offend.
